BIOGRAPHY
At just twenty-four years old, Alastair decided to leave England and cycle around the world. His epic journey took him through 60 countries, across five continents and took four years to complete. He had no sponsors, no support team, but just himself, his bike and a few maps.
Alastair’s 46,000-mile journey was heralded by Sir Ranulph Fiennes as “the first great adventure of the new Millennium”. Traveling the length of the Eurasia, Africa and the Americas, Alastair’s story is a breath-taking example of one man’s determination to achieve his goal.
Since returning from his cycle journey, Alastair has completed the Marathon des Sables (a 6 day endurance race in the Sahara desert), walked coast to coast through India, canoed down the Yukon river, trekked across Iceland by foot and pack-raft and worked on the Catlin Arctic Survey in the Canadian Arctic. He is currently rowing 3000 miles across the Atlantic ocean with a four strong team.
The National Geographic recently named Alastair as one of their Adventurers of the Year for his 2011 Microadventures project. Alastair developed the concept of a year of small, local trips that began and ended on his doorstep in order to demonstrate that adventure is within everybody’s reach.
MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKING
Alastair’s four year journey around the world is an amazing story of self-motivation, effective goal setting and achievement. As Alastair explains, his journey demonstrated “the rewards of risk, the power of communication and trust, the magnificence of our world, and a call to arms that nothing is achieved without being bold enough to begin it.”
Alastair’s continuing quest for adventure is utterly compelling. He has given motivational presentations to clients all over the world, motivating delegates with his infectious enthusiasm for life. A teaching graduate, he also regularly visits schools encouraging children to learn about challenge, risk, geography, citizenship, history, cultural awareness, moral and social issues and much more without feeling as though they are ‘learning’.
WHAT OTHERS SAY...
“It’s not often that you come across a speaker who is able to motivate his audience just through his infectious enthusiasm for life. I left feeling inspired by his incredible achievement and how well it helps with some of the more mundane challenges we face on a day to day basis!”;

“We took a ‘gamble’ in suspending timetables to bring a truly amazing achievement to the attention of our learners – this was repaid massively. All gained masses of knowledge and an understanding about what can be achieved, if you dare to live your dreams.” Rivington and Blackrod High School
