BIOGRAPHY
Dave Bunting is an Everest expedition leader and ex British Forces mountaineering specialist who spent many years as the Chief Training Instructor of the Joint Service’s mountain training centres around the world.
In 2006 Dave Bunting led an elite selection of climbers from the British Army on a ground-breaking expedition to become the first British team to complete the infamous West Ridge of Mount Everest. One of the mountains most difficult and dangerous routes, the West Ridge is a steep and narrow ridge of rock and ice where climbers are exposed to freezing high winds for the entire route. Only dedicated teamwork, effective leadership and determination gave the team any chance of success. Due to the high risk of avalanche, the team were sadly forced to turn back just below the summit. Nonetheless the expedition was hailed as a huge achievement for the team and Dave himself was awarded an MBE in recognition of his significant contribution to Service mountaineering.
Since leaving the Army in 2008, Dave has been working with a leadership development company based in Bavaria. As partners of Leeds Met University, the company facilitates the experiential residential modules on their new MSc in Leadership.

WHAT OTHERS SAY...
“Dave made a superb hour-long presentation on the Everest West Ridge Expedition to the 2007 International Congress of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. This was a significant departure for the Association as it was the first non-clinical opening presentation at an annual conference. However, the experiment was a great success as the 800 seat Auditorium at the Manchester Conference Centre was packed, and we had to relay Dave’s talk to an overspill lecture theatre.”
Professor Nicholas P Gair - Chief Executive Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland
“Dave’s presentation and subsequent informal Q & A session was by far and away the best part of the whole 3 days. It was highly relevant to the nature of our ‘Event’, Project Management in general and was expertly delivered.”
John Owen Senior Programme Manager, Capgemini
“Dave took the participants on our programme up the mountain with him through a series of images, videos and descriptions. He very naturally and effectively linked this into leadership and got across some important learning lessons. His tale was inspirational for us and the slight twist in the tale deepened the learning. He was able to spend the entire day with us which was great in terms of participants being able to talk further to him and to run networking sessions. Had we realised how good he was we would actually have built further group work sessions around his presentation.”
