On August 7th, adventurer Alastair Humphreys will be talking at Cyclescreen - Bristol’s first dedicated bike film festival.
The event is being organised by Watershed, Bristol’s acclaimed media centre which sits on the city’s historic harbourside. The bike holds a special place in the hearts of Bristol’s ever-growing cycling community and to celebrate the many pleasures to be found on two wheels, Watershed are hosting a season of fun, inspiring cycling films, talks and events for riders and non-riders alike. All this and a pedal powered cinema! Supported by Greater Bristol’s Better By Bike project.
When the organisers of Cyclescreen approached us for a speaker to fit into their packed programme of films and events, we immediately thought of Alastair and his 46 000 mile journey around the world by bike.
At just 24 years old, Alastair decided to leave England to cycle round the world. His epic journey would take him through 60 countries, across 5 continents and take 4 years to complete. Unlike many modern expeditions, Alastair’s trip was totally self-funded, without any support team, Alastair relying solely on himself, his bike and a few maps. As well as having a great adventure, Alastair’s trip raised funds for the charity Hope and Homes for Children.

Riding from England to South Africa, Alastair crossed the Atlantic by yacht, cycled from Patagonia to Alaska, crossed the Pacific by freighter, finally completing his expedition by cycling back to England from eastern Siberia.
If you would like to hear his fascinating first hand account of what Sir Ranulph Fiennes described as “the first great adventure of the new millennium”, you can catch him at the Watershed, Bristol on Saturday 7th August at 17.00 - 18.30.
Tickets are available from the Box Office on 0117 927 5100.
