To coincide with the launch of our new site, Speakers from the Edge are pleased to introduce four fantastic new speakers to our portfolio; Stephen Venables, Mark Beaumont, Tori James and Alastair Humphreys.

Stephen Venables

Stephen Venables headshotLegendary mountaineer Stephen Venables is already a highly sought after speaker, with an impressive list of clients to his name. The first Briton to climb Everest without supplementary oxygen, a feat which has been described as one of the supreme athletic tests known to man, Stephen is one of the most respected mountaineers of his generation.

Stephen has extensive experience of corporate speaking all over the world and considerable expertise at applying his knowledge to a business framework.

As Stephen himself explains “mountaineers are by nature obstinate individualists, but they have to work together, resolving tensions, recognizing and capitalising on their different skills and temperaments. For each team member, the expedition is a profound exercise in personal development.”

We are really pleased that Stephen has chosen to work with Speakers from the Edge, and look forward to a successful working partnership.

Mark Beaumont

Mark headshotMark is a remarkable man with a penchant for ultra endurance expeditions. In 2008 he broke the record for cycling solo around the world, arriving in Paris after spending 194 days and 17 hours cycling 100 miles per day. Traveling over 18, 000 miles across four continents and through 20 countries, Mark faced hostile encounters on the border lands of the Helmand Province, monsoon rains in South East Asia, and was knocked off his bike three times.
Mark truly exemplifies what can be achieved through sheer determination.

Mark's documentary ‘The Man who Cycled the World’ was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA and at just 26 years old he looks set to become one of the leading adventurers of his generation.

From June 2009 until February 2010 Mark is embarking on another solo expedition whilst filming a multi-platform BBC1 documentary. The full details of this never before attempted challenge are under wraps but do check back soon to follow the journey.

Tori James

Tori headshotTori James has a passion for extreme adventure in sub zero temperatures. In 2005 she became the youngest British female to climb Mount Everest, just a few months after completing the grueling Polar Challenge as part of the first all female team to reach the finish.

Tori currently works as the Education Manager for Make Your Mark, a national campaign aiming to unlock the UK’s enterprise potential. She is dedicated to inspiring young minds and and has considerable experience of talking to young people, as well as a growing list of corporate clients. She manages the annual Make Your Mark Challenge, the UK’s largest one-day enterprise competition for young people, and supports a number of other youth organisations.

Tori’s presentations focus on motivation and achievement, showing others how to unlock their potential and reach their goals.

Alastair Humphreys

Alastair headshotAlastair Humphreys is an extraordinary man who epitomises adventure in the 21st century. Aged just 24 years old, he set off on his bike determined to travel around the world, a journey which would take him through 60 countries, across 5 continents and take 4 years to complete. Totally self-funded and without a support team, Alastair’s epic journey is a real testament to self-motivation.

Since returning from this trip, Alastair has also competed in the Marathon des Sables, a six day endurance race across the Sahara desert and he has just returned from walking the length of the sacred Kaveri River in India, raising awareness for the charity WaterAid.

This Autumn, Alastair and fellow Brit Ben Saunders will be attempting the first unsupported expedition to the South Pole on foot, a journey of 1800 miles with an estimated 4 months of walking - we’ll be following their progress.

Alastair’s infectious enthusiasm for life makes him an engaging and exciting speaker, and his images truly capture the magnificence of our world.
