As part of their Winter Lecture Series, Chesterfield Venues asked Speakers from the Edge to recommend a speaker with a captivating polar expedition story to tell. So we sent them some information about Felicity Aston, who has just become the first women to ski solo across the entire Antarctic continent.
Felicity's current expedition is just the latest in a series of polar challenges. This February, straight from Antarctica she will be talking about her first record breaking expedition to the South Pole in 2009.
In 2009, Felicty led a diverse, multicultural team of ordinary women on one of the most arduous journeys on earth: a 900km trek to the South Pole. The 38-day expedition saw the 8 women, some of whom had never even seen snow before, enduring eighty-mile-an-hour winds, frostbite and daily injuries whilst skiing across the cracking ice, which revealed deadly crevasses beneath. A truly inspirational story and fascinating insight into the coldest, driest and most challenging continent on Earth.
