SIMON YATES
Internationally renowned mountaineer Simon Yates is a veteran of more than eighty expeditions to some of the world’s most remote and challenging mountains. Over a career spanning more than forty years, his adventures have taken him across the globe—from Alaska to New Zealand, and from Greenland to Antarctica.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
1985 – First ascent of the West Face of Siula Grande (6,356m), Peruvian Andes – famously documented in the book, film, and stage play Touching the Void.
1987 – First ascents of Leyla Peak (6,300m) and Nemeka (6,400m), Pakistani Karakoram.
1991 – Reached the summit as part of the team making the first British ascents of Khan Tengri (6,995m), Kazakhstan.
1992 – New route established on the Central Tower of Paine, Chilean Patagonia.
2001 – First ascent of Monte Ada (2,100m), Chilean Tierra del Fuego.
2004 – First ascent of the southwest face of Hispar Sar (6,400m), Pakistan.
2005 – New route on the West Face of Mount Alverstone (4,439m), Wrangell-St. Elias Range, on the Alaska–Yukon border.
2008 – Eight first ascents in Milne Land, Eastern Greenland.
2009 – First alpine-style ascent of the vast 3 km southwest ridge of Good Neighbor Peak, Wrangell Mountains.
2011 – Thirteen first ascents in the Saven Range, Eastern Greenland.
2011 / 2014 – Climbed the three highest peaks of the Arctic: Gunnbjørn Fjeld (3,693m), Dome (3,683m), and Cone (3,669m), Watkins Mountains, Greenland.
2014–2015 – Numerous first ascents in Northern Liverpool Land, Eastern Greenland.
2016 – First ascents in the Stauning Alps, Greenland
2022 & 2024 – First ascents in the Jacobsen, Ryberg, and Jansens Fjords regions of Eastern Greenland.
